Amanita was an American post-rock / progressive metal band formed in White Lake Township, MI. The band was founded by Jim Tobakos as a solo project, who began playing guitar in 2002.
In 2012, Amanita joined Just Noise Music, which pushed Tobakos to release his debut EP, Amanita, and do something more with his music hobby. Commenting on the album, Tobakos said, "it digs deep into my brain and brings to life the music that is constantly pounding in my head".
Following the release of the EP, Amanita established a full band line-up consisting of Tobakos on guitar and vocals, Aaron Stinson and Jake Reske on guitar, Zech Lakatos on bass and Vince D'Agostino on drums. The band released a two-track EP in March 2014 titled Arduous March.
After Amanita came to an end, Tobakos began focusing on his role in the band Beneath This Facade. In 2019, he became a member of the band Balsam Grove with former Caves of Glass bandmate Larry Lee Hansen. Together, they co-wrote/produced Balsam Grove's debut album, You're Safe Here, which features previously unused Amanita material.
